"PRINCE OF WALES DRUM IN ORANGE PARADE HERE," Toronto Star. July 11, 1933. Page 3. --- This huge Irish drum, bearing the likeness of the Prince of Wales, and which his royal highness beat to the tune of popular Orange airs at the opening of the new Ulster parliament buildings last November, will be seen in Toronto's Orange parade to-morrow at the head of W. H. G. Armstrong Memorial L.O.L., 3001. The instrument was formerly called the "Drum of Ballymacash", but was renamed "Prince of Wales". It is to be returned to Ireland in time for Derry Day celebrations on August 12. With the drum is seen James Carson, superintendent of Toronto County Orange Hall. Men in northern Ireland to-morrow will salute the Union Jack presented by Mayor Stewart last year through Toronto delegates to the Triennial Council.

#OTD in Irish History | 12 July:
1660 – Sir Mark Rainsford was the 36th Lord Mayor of Dublin from 1700 to 1701. During this period the statue of King William of Orange on College Green was unveiled by him, a monument which would become a centre of protest and celebration for generations in the capital. Rainsford was also the original founder of the brewery at St. James’ Gate, which would later become the Guinness Brewery.…

The Twelfth
Tumblr media
Source: The Guardian
Today is The Twelfth in Ulster and parts of Scotland when the Orange Order, which was founded in 1795, march through towns and cities to commemorate the victory of the Protestant William of Orange over the Catholic King James II at the Battle of Boyne in 1690. The victory ensured the success of the 1688 Glorious Revolution in the United Kingdom and the deposition of James. It also ensured the continuance of the Protestant ascendancy in Ulster and the domination of its Catholic minority which continued at least until the 1999 Good Friday Agreement. As a result, the Orange Order marches have been flashpoints for political tension and sectarian conflict each year.
A slightly more benign commemoration of the Boyne is the Sham Fight which takes place on or about the 12th at Scarva, near Portadown in County Down. Scarva was where William camped the night before the battle and each year after an Orange parade, the battle is re-staged as a fight between two horsemen, one decked out as William and the other as King James. William (known by Ulster Protestants as “King Billy”) of course wins every time.

"DOCTOR THREATENED TO 'GET HIM', IS CLAIM," Toronto Star. January 17, 1934. Page 3. --- Owen Sound Hospital Head, Says Webb Promised Orange Order Would Act ---- Special to The Star Owen Sound, Jan. 17. - First witness to-day in Dr. Gordon Webb's suit against Owen Sound General and Marine hospital, J. R. McLinden, hospital board chairman, testified that when Dr. Webb had been notified of his dismissal, Dr. Webb had declared: "I'm going to the Orange Order about this. I'll get you through the Orange Order." Dr. Webb charges wrongful dismissal.
Mr. McLinden is a Roman Catholic. Witness said Dr. Webb was hired on approval and several weeks later was retained on an indefinite hiring agreement at $60 a week.
J. M. Godfrey: "He was head of the X-ray department from July, 1929, until the middle of August, 1932?"
"Yes."
A statement of earnings of the X- ray department during Dr. Webb's employment showed an excess of receipts over expenses of $7.900, receipts being at the rate of about $7,800 a year.
"The doctors complained of Dr. Webb's treatment of tonsilitis and goitre by X-ray."
"Yes. but I thought that if these treatments would save patients operations and perhaps cure them, they should be allowed. The hospital board passed a resolution, despite the opposition of the doctors, permitting Dr. Webb to give treatments."
Mr. McLinden told of differences over holding X-ray department receipts. Witness said Dr. Webb objected to new rules, because he felt they reflected on his honesty. The hospital head complained that Dr. Webb was untidy in the X-ray room and smoked while attending patients.
That she had been cured of tonsilitis and goitre by Dr. Webb's X-ray treatments in spite of the opposition of her own physician to her taking such treatments, was the evidence of Mrs. J. H. van Overbeek to-day on behalf of Dr. Webb.
"Dr. Howey was urging me to have an operation, but I wanted to avoid it." Mrs. van Overbeek testified. "He would not give me permission to take the X-ray treatments for goitre. I am now completely cured and am enjoying the best of health in my life."
Dr. Webb, recalled on his own behalf, cited instances to show that he had been right in his differences of opinion on diagnosis of several patients, referred to in yesterday's evidence by several doctors.
Mrs. van Overbeek said she had been a patient of Dr. Richard Howey and had been suffering from tonsilitis and a serious goitre.
"In 1929 Dr. Howey told me to go to bed for three months. My tonsils were bad and he wanted to remove them. I was trying to avoid an operation, I had heard of so many unsuccessful ones. In 1932 I heard of successful treatments for tonsilitis and goitre by Dr. Webb."
"What was Dr. Howey's attitude?"
"I pleaded with him to give me his consent to take these X-ray treatments, but he definitely refused. Finally Dr. Howey consented to have me take treatments for tonsilitis and the hospital board permitted Dr. Webb to treat me for goitre."
Claims Complete Cure "What was the result?" "I felt better almost at once and finally my tonsil ailments and my goitre were both completely cured."
"Have you had any recurrence?"
"Absolutely not. I have never had such good health in my life."
Charges Deliberate Lying "Dr. Bell was deliberately lying," declared Dr. Webb, when recalled, referring to the difference between Dr. Bell's recollection of an X-ray report and the document itself.
Judge Morley: "That's your opinion."
Dr. Webb: "Well, he was mistaken, anyway."
Witness said Dr. Charles Gaviller disagreed with him on the diagnosis of a boy. "We called in Dr. Mc- Phedran of Toronto and his examination confirmed my diagnosis." he stated.
Witness told how, X-raying a patient for Dr. H. G. Murray, he deep-seated abscess. probing, told him had reported a Dr. Murray, after his report was wrong.
"I told Dr. Murray he hadn't probed deep enough. He said: 'This is just like your other reports, but he probed more deeply and found matter."

Battle of the Boyne - Pope backed King Billy!
On July 12 every year, Irish Protestants celebrate the Battle of the Boyne even though the Pope backed King Billy - Tony McMahon explains
On July 12 every year, Loyalist Protestants and members of the Orange Order celebrate the Battle of the Boyne. Why? Because this was when the Protestant King William III of England – or King Billy if you prefer – defeated the overthrown English king, James II who had fled to Ireland with his forces. James had tried to restore the Catholic faith in his realms (England, Scotland, Wales, and…
